Community Service Day

Established in 2011, Community Service Day is an annual day of service, open to the entire community, during which volunteers of all ages donate a half-day of their time to work on worthwhile community-based projects. Community Service Day celebrates volunteerism and its contribution to Walnut Creek’s quality of life.

And the results are clear: In April 2026, more than 900 community members volunteered their time to work on 33 different community-based projects. Over its 16 years, Community Service Day has produced nearly 50,000 volunteer hours of service for more than 500 individual projects benefitting public schools, libraries, open spaces and creeks, community gardens and parks, wildlife and pets, recreation facilities, the arts, and social services.

Planning for our Spring 2027 Community Service Day is underway. More details will be announced in the fall.
